Despite the chaotic situation in the country, some young Haitians have been able to stand out from the others by feats of their respective fields for the year 2021. Active on all social networks and blogs, these influencers are the new web stars.
The staff of Media Group MAGHAITI presents the ten most influential young Haitians for the year 2021, based on the achievements of these young people under 30 years old. Very popular on social media, they have positively strived at influencing the youth during this year which is marked by political unrest.
Rose Lumane Saint-Jean (24 years old): She is the trophy of the entire Haitian nation by winning the TV5MONDE Audience Award, at the third edition of the International Eloquence Competition of the University of Paris One-Panthéon-Sorbonne, on 25 May 2021 in Paris. The strong mobilization on social networks by Haitians has been more than fruitful and satisfactory. The master1 (M1) program in Management and Economics of Haitian local authorities from the University of the North in Cap-Haitien outdone her opponents with more than 25,000 votes. She has had a lot of influence on young Haitian women and emphasizes the importance of education in society.
Néhémie Bastien (27 years old): The young Haitian actress beamed at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2021. Main actress of the feature film Freda by director and actress Gessica Geneus, she was shortlisted by the Académie des Sotigui for the Sotigui Awards of the African Public and for the 2022 Oscars. The film was the crowned focus of the François Chalais Special Mention Prize at the 74th Cannes Film Festival 2021. On October 23, Freda won the Fespaco Silver Stallion and Best Sound at the 27th Pan-African Film Festival and Ouagadougou television.
Marc Guerson-Philistin (29 years old): a fiery young journalist, he represents the majority opinion of the population through his peerless reports on Radio Télévision Caraïbes FM. He joined RTVC in August 2015. He co-hosts the Creole short story “Denye Okazyon” and the Cultural program “Sabado Latino”. A founding member of the Haitian Association for Investigative Journalists (AHJI). Marc-Guerson Philistin received the Rock Cadet Prize in the category of court columnists on October 20, 2021 at the School of Magistrates for his reporting on justice.
Marie Bedjine Love David (23 years old): She surely marked the year 2021 with her talent. Since the release of the hit clip “Pouki’n te marye” in collaboration with K-dilak in December 2020 (the clip exceeded the bar of 16 million views on YouTube), the young singer has surprisingly continued to charm her fans. Her talent, her clothing choices, her performances on stage, her contact with the public, her sublime body, she does everything possible to be on top of the niche. At only 23, she already has the mark of what resembled the Hollywood echoes of Nicki Minaj or Cardi B. 2021 appeared to be a successful year for Bedjine and K-adilak.
Cantave K (25 years old): He is long remembered as the man who gave up his medical studies to follow his passion as a comedian. This 25-year-old was one of the many revelations of 2021, ported by the socio-political crisis. Kerven Cantave has become very popular on social media with his skits based on politics and social topics. The comedian chanced with cinematic endeavour, thanks to the director of the film Freda Gessica Geneus, who is currently the glory on the international scene. In July 2021, Cantave paraded at the Cannes International Film Festival, alongside Néhémie Bastien and Gessica.
Richard Pierrin (19 years old): This young dreamer has always been passionate about photography since his childhood. After attending a training seminar given by the famous photojournalist Dieu-Nalio Chéry in 2020, Richard Pierrin fully embarked on his dream. Thanks to his talent, he landed a freelance position with Getty Images, one of the largest international photography agencies. These images were taken during the street mobilizations of 2021 and those of the earthquake of August 14th. He is a source of inspiration and motivation for the epoch of 2000.
Pascale Belony (28 years old): Model, registered nurse, she was named “Miss Haiti 2021”. Plus, she has great intellectual capacities, her beauty and her talents in modeling. She has aligned for her next event at the Miss Universe 2021 in December, and she will represent Haiti. She was second runner-up Miss Haiti in 2019, Miss Supra-Nationale Haiti 2021 and Miss SupraCarribbean 2021. Such a record makes Pascal Bélony, the most successful miss to date in the country. The activist for women’s health and holistic health recently represented Haiti at the 12th Miss Supranational competition in Poland and placed Top 24. Pascale Belony is a health specialist in health education.
Sabiana Anestor (27 years old): She is the only person to have directly won her ticket to judo for the Olympic Games. From July 23 to August 8, 2021, she was placed 111th in the world ranking, -52 kg. Blackbelt premier dan level, with 1.65 m, she won the Pan-American Bronze Medal in Punta Cana 2021, and seventh place at the Guadalajara 2021 Pan-American Championship. Despite her early do away with at the Tokyo Olympics (0-10) , Sabiana Anestor was Haiti’s only hope to win a medal. Obed Lamy (29 years old): Haitian journalist / director Obed Lamy won the “Best Emerging Filmmaker” Award at the Fayetteville Film Festival, for his documentary “Once Forgotten”. This documentary has been screened at several other film festivals, including the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, the Capital City Festival, the Montgomery Film Festival and the Toronto Black Film Festival. He received his graduate study degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas, holds a Bachelor degree from the administrative program, and studied Mass Communications at the Haiti State University.
Youseline Vital (30 years old): She is the genius behind “Payèt Design”, a company specializing in sequins and pearls paintings. On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, March 8, 2021, she received the “Fanm Angaje 2021” award from the Haitian Center for Leadership and Excellence (CLE). She presented her first exhibition of paintings called “ETENSÈL” from September 25 to 26, 2021. In November, she was selected in the top ten Haitian artisans by the International Sports-Media Sportskeeda, after being put in contact with Naomi Osaka. Linked through social networks who was then looking for original Haitian artificers in painting.
