Youseline Vital is a remarkable artist whose passion and talent have propelled her to amazing heights. Her artistic journey has been shaped by diverse experiences and a rich cultural background. In an e-interview with Vital, our editor was able to discuss the artist’s life and work, as Vital’s artistic endeavors, inspirations, and the impact she strives to make, who took special delight in “sewing, handmade articles with fabrics, sequins, and beads, an art that I learned at the age of eight from my father,” she says to our editor in Fall 2021.
Inclusion in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)
Representing Payet Design in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the USA, Vital has been chosen to participate in the “Regional Women’s Entrepreneurs Africa-Haiti” program in the year 2023. This opportunity allows her to showcase her skills and represent Haiti on an international platform. Additionally, she has participated in the Cross Culture Program, further expanding her horizons, and fostering cultural exchange.
Youseline Vital finds solace and stress relief through various activities, including listening to music, tuning into podcasts, and creating charts. Although unrelated to her professional experience, these endeavors provide her with a sense of calm and tranquility. Her passion for art and self-expression continues to grow, fueling her creativity and pushing boundaries.

Exploring Voodoo’s True Identity Youseline Vital’s Brief Insightful Perspective
Inspiration surrounds Vital, as she draws from her surroundings and personal experiences. With deep roots in Haitian culture, she dedicates time to work on embracing women in society, ensuring their voices are heard. Her research on Voodoo religion and its portrayal in her work aims to challenge misconceptions and provide a comprehensive understanding of Voodoo’s identity.
Vital’s artwork is characterized by its abstract nature, often defying verbal description. When asked by our editor about her favorite piece of artwork, she states “I do not have a favorite piece, but a recent residency at Berlin Art Institute allowed me to create a series of works that continually captivate my approach and how I aim to continue to create.” Sometimes, she grapples with feelings of disconnection from the place and country of residence when she is outside of Haiti. Yet, hidden words in her abstract work and the innovative experiences she has with others help her navigate and comprehend her emotions, and the meaningful feeling of home and what she represents.

Each piece created by Vital holds immense significance. She believes that art must reflect reality and find a place in her life. Building her work with beads, sequins, and thread, she meticulously sews each element, carefully selecting colors to bring her canvases to life. Exploring hybrid works and abstract painting, she combines techniques to furthering her creative boundaries.

Youseline Vital’s artistic career has been lately relatively obstacle-free, leading her to believe that art has chosen her. However, her journey is built upon the foundation of her previous work in the Haitian community. She has dedicated herself to training young leaders and creating platforms so that aspiring women entrepreneurs, find their voices. These experiences have shaped her resilience and taught her the importance of patience and preparation in pursuing which subject to develop in her artistic work journey.

Born in the Western department of Port-au-Prince, Vital draws inspiration from various styles and movements, including fauvism, pop art, impressionism, and abstract. Artists such as Henri Matisse, Kandinsky Vassily et Wagler Vital, Pascale Monnin, Tessa Mars, Mirlande Constant, and Mireille Delice have influenced her artistic development.
